CD184 (CXCR4, Fusin) is a 45-kDa, seven-transmembrane G-protein–coupled CXC chemokine receptor widely expressed on blood and tissue cells, including B and T cells, monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, granulocytes, megakaryocytes/platelets, endothelial and epithelial cells, astrocytes, and neurons. It serves as the receptor for the chemokine SDF-1/CXCL12, regulating cell migration, B lymphopoiesis, myelopoiesis, cardiogenesis, vascular development, and cerebellar formation. CD184 also functions as a co-receptor for X4 HIV-1 entry and as an alternative receptor for certain HIV-2 isolates.
